Mission débutée en 2011
Le Bosphore que l’on appelle aujourd’hui « Kertch », situé entre la mer Noire et la mer d’Azov, au pied du Caucase, n’est pas un détroit comme les autres. Depuis 2006, une mission internationale a dessiné une nouvelle carte de ce bout oublié du monde : suite à des dizaines de carottages géomorphologiques, un archipel a pu être reconstitué dans le delta du Kuban ; une nouvelle histoire de la mer Noire pendant l’Holocène a été écrite. Des prospections géophysiques et archéologiques ont révélé plusieurs sites fortifiés et prouvé que les Milésiens se sont éparpillés en petits groupes sur les bords de la mer Noire, à la recherche des richesses naturelles, exportables vers l’Égée. Depuis 2011, nous confrontons ces résultats à la lecture critique des textes et cartes. À terme, nous voulons proposer une première reconstitution 4D du détroit de Kertch, avec des hypothèses sur la localisation et l’identification des sites encore méconnus et sur leur connectivité terrestre, fluviale et maritime.
